Hello fellow IT pros,I wanted to get some opinions on this situation, here we go:I am going to give you a bit of background, I am 29 years old, I've been in IT for 8 years now. I really like the Mac Mini format but other needs dictate the need for more portability. When I replace this one I'll move to a MBP with a SSD and a bit more beef in the processor. They also enhanced the OS by bogging it down quite a bit. One of the improvements they made with this model was removing the ability for the end user to upgrade the RAM. The one I have now is running Catalina updated from High Sierra. When I tried to install Ubuntu on it it kept giving me a warning about the clock speed on the CPU. I'm not sure but there may have been something wrong with the processor. I think I ultimately upgraded it to High Sierra before unloading it. This was my first rodeo with this type of install and didn't do the base partition but at the end of the day I was able to run it. I was able to boot to the USB drive once I got the new HDD installed. I also ended up having to run to a near by-ish Best Buy and acquire a wired Mac keyboard. I ordered a USB drive with Mavericks loaded. I had very few (no) options to create OS media before the HD tanked and honestly I was relying on my Time Machine backups which ultimately failed. Let me share with you my experience on an older Mac where an iTunes update fried the hard drive (thanks for that, um, "feature" Apple)
